October 29th, 2014 Newsletter

October is Vocational Service Month

For the second week in a row, Dennis finds a twin.
Bev and Deana have a chat.
Pat displays what our new chocolate and nut trays will look like.
Duane handed out our packages to sell the trays.
Trudy is joining Rotary!  Welcome, Trudy!
Mike Tyhy from Richardson Pioneer was guest speaker.
Greg Happ visited the club.
Speaking of Greg, his son Dexter is one of three outbound Rotary exchange students from Weyburn.  All three have blogs which you can check out.  We sponsored Emma Grainger who is in Switzerland and her blog is on Facebook at A Canadian Abroad.  The Oskaya Club of Regina was kind enough to sponsor Dexter Happ who is in Brazil and you can follow his adventures at www.dh616.wordpress.com.  The Rotary Club of Flin Flon sponsored Alyssa Jones who is in Taiwan and you can follow her at alyssajones-taiwan.tumblr.com.  Note that there is no "e" in "tumblr."  Please remember that if they aren't posting often, that is a good sign.  It means they are too busy learning, socializing, and having fun to post often.  That's what Rotary Youth Exchange is all about!

Saturday morning 22 intrepid Rotarians got up to sing in out usual time slot at the Weyburn and District Communithon.  We pretty much got through our entire list as another group canceled so there was time to fill.

The Cugnet Centre is an awesome venue for the Communithon even though it looks a little empty even with our fan base there!
Thanks to those who participated.  Breakfast and fellowship at the Credit Union was a great reward.

Meals on Wheels:  November 5th - Jill Thorn, November 12th - Gary Anderson,
 November 19th - Chakra Balayar

Emilie's Drivers:  November 6th - Greg Nikkel, November 13th - April Sampson,
November 20th - Tom Schuck

Birthdays:  November 2nd - Marg Marinos

Anniversaries:  none

How well do you know your fellow Rotarians?

Last week's question:  Which of our members did a talk about Tommy Douglas recently?  Kim Thorson did to celebrate Tommy Douglas Day.

This week's question:  Which of our Rotarians will be the first-ever recipient of the Roger Phillips Chamber Builder Award at the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce's annual ABEX awards?  Let me add that this Rotarian is winning it for "long-term contributions of time, intelligence and leadership in strengthening the chamber of commerce netweor in the province."  Well done!
